Dams & Sires

Below are the pictures, descriptions, and links to our sires' and dams' health testing results. We find that having less dogs works better for us, so some of the sires we use in our breeding program do not belong to us and live with their owners. All poodles used in our breeding program are required to have health testing done, or be clear by parentage.

Optimal Selection was recently acquired by MyDogDNA, so the Optimal Selection links are now forwarded to their website. You can see retired dogs here.

About Temperament & DNA Health Testing

About Temperament Testing

The C-BARQ (or Canine Behavioral Assessment and Research Questionnaire) was created by the University of Pennsylvania and provides standardized evaluations of canine temperament and behavior. This is the world’s most referenced behavioral assessment tool for dogs. You can see each dog's results by clicking the brain icon next to the medical icon.

About DNA Testing

My poodles are purebred not because they have "papers," they are purebred because they have only ever had purebred poodles in their lineage. "Papers" can NOT guarantee the puppy you are buying is purebred, but a DNA test can. A good breeder should be able to show you genetic testing proving that their dams and sires are purebred.

All of our poodles have had their DNA tested for a variety of different genetic diseases (over 170!) and have also had their DNA tested for the coat color, modifying coat color, and genetic diversity. Genetic diversity shows if a dog is purebred or mixed and, based on percentage, shows the dog's diversity.

We believe in transparency and provide links to our health testing so you can verify that our dogs are purebred and not at risk¹ by anything we tested for. Click on the red cross icon in each dog's profile so see the health testing results.

  • DCM*

¹ At risk means a dog does carries two copies of a variant. None of our poodles are "At Risk" or "Affected." Carrier means a dog carries only one copy of a variant, and is not at risk for developing the illness.

* We test for genetic DCM (Dilated Cardiomyopathy). The poodle breed is not prone to genetic DCM, but is not immune to nutritional DCM. Nutritional DCM is caused by grain-free food, which is why we do not recommend feeding it. Please be advised that our Health Guarantee does NOT cover nutritional DCM.
